This project focused on spa and wellness photography at FCC Angkor, Siem Reap, part of the Avani Hotels group. As a luxury hotel photographer in Cambodia, the aim was to create imagery that reflects both the atmosphere of the spa and the overall guest experience within a 5-star hospitality environment.
Using model-led lifestyle photography, the shoot was designed to go beyond documenting the space, instead capturing how guests interact with the environment. This approach allows hotels to present not just their facilities, but the experience they offer.
Working within an operational hotel setting, the shoot combined available light, careful composition, and natural interaction with the model, ensuring the final images align with the visual standards expected of international hotel brands.

Working with Models in a Luxury Hotel Environment
This project included model-led lifestyle photography, designed to showcase how guests experience the spa rather than simply documenting the space.
In luxury hospitality, this type of imagery plays an important role in marketing. It allows hotels to present a more complete and aspirational view of the guest experience, helping potential guests visualise themselves within the environment.
Working with a model in an operational hotel setting requires careful coordination, including timing, positioning, and maintaining a natural interaction with the space. The focus is always on keeping the imagery authentic, avoiding overly staged compositions while still delivering a refined and consistent result.
This approach is widely used by international hotel brands, particularly across spa, wellness, and resort environments, where atmosphere and experience are central to how a property is presented.
Lighting & Atmosphere in Spa Photography
Spa and wellness environments are typically designed with low light, warm tones, and a calm atmosphere, which presents specific challenges when creating professional imagery.
For this project, I used a combination of artificial lighting and ambient light to maintain the natural feel of the space while ensuring clarity, balance, and consistency across all images. This approach allows the final images to reflect how the spa feels in person, while still meeting the visual standards required for hotel marketing.
Careful lighting was particularly important to manage:
- low light conditions
- mixed colour temperatures
- shadows and contrast within treatment rooms
- reflective surfaces and materials
By introducing controlled lighting where needed, I was able to shape the scene without overpowering the existing atmosphere, keeping the images natural, refined, and aligned with a 5-star hospitality environment.
The result is a set of images that preserve the calm and intimate feel of the spa, while delivering the level of clarity and consistency expected from luxury hotel photography.
