Preparing your hotel for a professional photoshoot is one of the most important steps in achieving high-quality hotel photography. Well-prepared rooms, clean styling and consistent lighting allow a hotel photographer to create images that perform effectively across booking platforms, hotel websites and marketing campaigns.
This guide covers how to prepare hotel rooms, amenities, public areas and staff for a hotel photography shoot. Whether you are planning a luxury hotel photoshoot, boutique hotel shoot or resort photography project, proper preparation ensures your property is presented clearly, consistently and at a professional standard.

Preparing for a hotel photoshoot is not just about cleaning and styling rooms. It is also about planning how the images will be used across your website, booking platforms and marketing campaigns.
Before the shoot, it is important to define your goals, identify key spaces to photograph and create a clear plan for the day. A well-organised hotel photography shoot ensures consistency across images, saves time during production and delivers a complete set of visuals for your property.
A typical hotel photoshoot plan should include:
Planning in advance allows the photographer to work efficiently and ensures all important areas of the hotel are captured without delays or missed opportunities.
Proper cleaning and presentation are essential when preparing a hotel room for a photoshoot. Even small details such as creases in bedding, marks on glass or clutter in the background can significantly affect the final images.
Before a hotel photography shoot, each room should be prepared to a high standard to ensure clean, consistent and professional results across all images.
Well-prepared amenities play an important role in hotel photography, helping to communicate quality, attention to detail and overall guest experience. Thoughtful setup ensures each room feels complete, balanced and ready for presentation in professional images.
Before a hotel photoshoot, all guest amenities should be carefully arranged to reflect how the room is experienced in real life, while maintaining a consistent and visually appealing standard across all rooms.
Choose rooms with the best possible views.
Prioritise rooms that look out onto trees, sky, gardens or the pool rather than buildings or rooftops.
If your hotel has several room types, prepare a selection that represents your property well.
The pool is one of the most important locations for hotel photography. It can look very different depending on the time of day, so it must be fully prepared before the shoot begins, and ideally be available during the duration of the photoshoot or ready at a pre-agreed time.
Remove brown or fallen leaves from plants and the pool surface.
Arrange sunbeds, towels and umbrellas neatly.
Ensure the pool water is clean and clear.
Keep the area clean and ready during the entire shooting time.
It is ideal to have 1 or 2 staff on standby if possible so that they an assist with getting props such as cocktails or curtain ties if needed.
If you want staff or models included in the photos:
Arrange for them to be available for the entire duration of the shoot.
Inform the photographer if they need to leave at a certain time.
Have staff ready to prepare drinks or other props when needed.
Ensure uniforms are clean and neatly presented.
The first example shows a well-made bed with smooth sheets. This is the standard to aim for.
The second example shows a bed with visible creases and uneven pillows. Please smooth out bedding as much as possible to avoid this.
