Food & Restaurant Photography Project | Siso Siem Reap
Covering: Restaurant & Bar, Food and Cocktail Photography
This food and cocktail photography project at Siso Restaurant aimed to capture the restaurant’s refined and contemporary menu through rich tones, controlled lighting, and a cinematic depth of field. The images highlight the artistry of each dish and the inviting ambience of the venue, reflecting the elegance and creativity that stands out in Siem Reap’s dining scene.
Restaurant & Bar Photography Approach
For this project, the focus was on creating a consistent visual style across both food and the restaurant environment. Each image was produced with its final use in mind, from menu design and social media to website and booking platforms.
Lighting was carefully controlled to maintain rich tones and depth while ensuring each dish remained true to how it is served. Alongside the food, the atmosphere of the space was equally important, with attention given to textures, materials, and the overall mood of the restaurant.
This approach ensures the images work not just as individual shots, but as a complete set that reflects the identity of the venue.
Designed for Menus, Social Media & Marketing
Restaurant photography needs to perform across multiple platforms. For Siso, the images were created to be versatile, allowing them to be used across menus, social media campaigns, and promotional materials.
Close-up food photography highlights key dishes, while wider compositions and detail shots help establish the overall tone of the restaurant. Cocktail imagery adds another layer, supporting bar promotion and evening atmosphere.
By planning for these different uses during the shoot, the final set of images provides long-term value beyond a single campaign.
Food, Cocktails & Atmosphere
The project covered a range of content, from individual dishes and plated presentations to cocktails and the wider restaurant environment.
This combination allows the restaurant to present a complete dining experience. Guests are able to see not only what they will eat, but how the space feels and how the experience comes together.
The balance between food, drinks, and atmosphere helps create a stronger visual identity and a more engaging presence across all platforms.
Controlled Lighting & Consistency
For a project of this scale, controlled lighting was essential to ensure consistency across the entire menu.
Unlike natural light, which changes throughout the day, controlled lighting allows each dish to be photographed under the same conditions. This creates a uniform look across all images, which is critical when presenting a full menu, whether in print or online.
Relying only on natural light can limit what can be achieved. It restricts shooting to certain times of day and makes it difficult to maintain consistency, especially when working through a large number of dishes. In a live kitchen environment, where timing, preparation, and coordination with staff are key, this becomes a major constraint.
By using controlled lighting, the shoot can run efficiently alongside the kitchen team, without being dictated by external conditions. Each dish can be photographed as it is ready, while maintaining the same quality and style across the entire set.
Natural light can work well in certain situations, but for a structured, professional project, a controlled approach ensures reliable results, consistency, and a final image set that works as a complete and cohesive collection.
