Hotel Photography Project:
Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh
Covering: Interior Photography, Exterior Photography
I was very happy to be selected to be the photographer for the Hyatt Regency at its opening. The 5 star luxury hotel is situated in Phnom Penh, located near the Royal Palace – a great location for both business and pleasure.
Being a 5 star international brand, Hyatt needed to select their hotel photographer wisely. After reviewing my portfolio, it became clear that Exposure Photography was the best choice for their 5 star hotel photography project.
As is usual with a large opening like this, the photography project was divided into stages – the first stage which went on during the final stages of construction. This was when showrooms were just about ready, but the rest of the hotel was not. During this photoshoot, I was graciously put up in the Marriott, as the Hyatt Regency was not yet able to accommodate for guests.
The rooms and some of the public spaces were photographed over about 5 days, with a break day in the middle to allow for team building exercises the team had planned.
This pre opening photo shoot mostly involved interior photography for the rooms, a few food outlets, and some public spaces. The exterior and most of the hotel was not yet ready.
Some rooms were still under preparation, so I photographed different room categories in the same space and later adjusted the details in post-production. For example, I captured the city view and palace view separately, then used Photoshop to seamlessly blend and showcase the correct perspective for each room.
Photoshop is an essential skill for any professional photographer — it allows you to refine lighting, enhance composition, and deliver polished, realistic images that meet the client’s vision.

The next stage focused on capturing the hotel’s public spaces – including the pool, main restaurant areas, spa, gym, and other key facilities. These final shoots were especially enjoyable, as I stayed onsite at the Hyatt Regency while photographing the completed property. This allowed me to capture each area at the perfect time of day, highlighting the light, atmosphere, and design details that define the hotel experience. It also helped that the elevators were finally working!
As a professional hotel photographer in Phnom Penh, flexibility is key. Large-scale hospitality projects often involve last-minute adjustments, tight schedules, and the coordination of multiple teams. This assignment at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh was no exception – but collaboration and planning ensured everything came together beautifully.
In the end, the project was a great success. The Hyatt Regency team was thrilled with the final images, and it remains one of my all-time favorite hotel photography projects. Capturing the elegance and atmosphere of such a prestigious property was a true highlight of my work in Cambodia.
